Heart Made for Relationship

The Wilderness Within

Week 2 A Heart Made for Relationship

In the second week of Lent, Sr. Josephine Garrett, CSFN, reflects on the importance and primacy of relationships as we continue charting the map of our hearts before venturing into the wilderness within. Sr. Josephine shares how her own life and heart were transformed through the loving relationships she encountered in the convent. It was within the supportive community of her fellow sisters that she flourished and became more authentically the person God created her to be. Did you know the Surgeon General has declared loneliness an epidemic in the United States? How can we combat this growing crisis? Sr. Josephine urges us to be intentional about fostering relationships in our lives and to embrace the courage it requires. When we truthfully acknowledge our need for one another—and our need to give and receive love—we too can grow into the authentic versions of ourselves that God intended us to be.

Eternal Rest

Episode 1 The Story of Death   (See above)

Episode 2 The Afterlife

What happens after the moment of our death? Once the soul has been separated from the body, then what? What are heaven, hell, and purgatory? What is the difference between the particular judgment and the general judgment? This session looks at the truth about what awaits the human person on the other side of death. Anglican theology is not consistent with this concept of purgatory; however, many Anglo-Catholics do subscribe to a belief in purgatory and/or a state of purgation following death. In our Anglican prayers, we often pray for the dead and their “continued growth”.

Inventory of Spiritual/Emotional Maturity – The Emotionally Healthy Church, Pete Scazzero

Emotional health is not merely an idea to think about.  It is an experience for you when you are alone and in your close relationships with others. Take a few minutes to reflect on this simple inventory to get a sense of where you are as a disciple of Jesus Christ, both as an individual and at church.  It will help you get a sense of whether your discipleship has torched the emotional components of your life. This checklist is for your learning and growth as a spiritual disciple of Christ; it will not be viewed by anyone but yourself.  At our next Wednesday session, please return with your completed checklist and become part of the discussion to clarify and discern a more thorough understanding.  This inventory is yours to keep and will not be submitted.
